PM Ciolos: It is in our interest to have a European Serbia from all points of view

Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos stated on Thursday in Timisoara that Romania endorses Serbia's demarche to access the EU, giving assurances to his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic that Romanian authorities can provide all the experience gathered in this regard.

"For the accession to the EU (Serbia's accession -e.n.), it's in our interest to have a European Serbia from all points of view in the Western Balkans. In this regard a protocol was signed today and I have assured the Prime Minister that he will have all our support, so the reforms that Serbia is aiming at be carried out in order to prepare its accession to the EU," Ciolos stated.

Ciolos assured the Serbian Prime Minister of Romania's support in this demarche, underlining that "Serbia made visible and significant efforts in this last period in the accession preparation process."

"I have told the Prime Minister that we are ready to share our experience (...) with Serbia on this matter, as well as on other subjects," the Romanian Prime Minister underlined.

The Prime Minister stated that he discussed with his counterpart about the Romanian community in Serbia, about the possibility of cooperating so that Romanians out there study in the Romanian language and about the possibility to develop more bilateral exchanges, giving the tourism area as an example.

"The Prime Minister told me that the number one trend of Romanian tourists in Serbia is a positive one in the past years. I believe that in this area there is also a very consistent potential to develop the relations between us," Ciolos pointed out.

The head of the Bucharest Government added that the collaboration regarding the Danube River must be strengthened, both on the transport, as well as on the tourism area.
