Minister-delegate Birchall chairs first meeting of Coordination Committee of National System for European Affairs Management

​Minister-delegate for European Affairs Ana Birchall, on Friday, chaired the first meeting of the Coordination Committee of the National System for European Affairs Management, in its new layout, a Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) release sent to AGERPRES informs.

Within the meeting three main aspects were discussed. First, a new structure and the functioning manner of the National System for European Affairs Management were presented, according to the recent normative amendments.

They reviewed the short and medium-term necessary activities for preparing Romania to take over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), in the semester I of 2019. The priorities of Romania in relation to the European agenda in the upcoming period were also discussed, with an emphasis on preparing Romania to attend the ministerial meetings of the Council of the EU during this month, the quoted source reveals.

"A good collaboration in drawing up Romania's mandates on an European level, as well as efficient preparation of the rotative Presidency of the Council of the EU represent essential demarches in order to fulfill those objectives that each Romanian expects," Minister Ana Birchall stated, according to the release.

The Coordination Committee of the National System for European Affairs Management, which is working in its current layout based on the Government Decision No.32/2017 regarding the organization and functioning of the National System for European Affairs Management for Romania's participation in the decision-making process of the EU institutions, carries out its activity under the leadership of Minister-delegate for European Affairs Ana Birchall, and under the guidance of Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu.

The main objective is ensuring Romania's efficient participation to the decision-making process within the EU institutions. The Committee gathers weekly, ensuring that all the ministries an other specialized bodies are represented, on the level of state secretary with attributions in the European affairs area, the MAE mentions.
